An Update and Roundtable Discussion on the MacAskill/McCaskill yDNA Project, Including a Sharing of our Family Trees As Administrator of the McCaskill Genealogy Project on Family Tree yDNA.com, Gary McCaskill of Mississippi is happy to update the group with the newest information on the “Viking marker” that supports the tradition that MacAskills (of various spellings) are descended from Askell, (of various spellings) the last Viking King of Dublin, Ireland. This seminar will couple data from the yDNA participants with their family lineages and also the genealogies that we hope you will bring and share. What fun to find new cousins! And, each time another man joins the project it contributes to the growth of the database. So do drop Gary a note at Askell@BellSouth.Net if you want to participate.
James N. McCaskill lll presenting: MacAskill Lands at Rubh' an Dunain. Jim McCaskill of Houston, who can trace his lineage directly back to Rubh' an Dunain, a tack on the Isle of Skye, which the MacAskills held for 900 years, will share the lovely photos of his exciting pilgrimage back to the lands of his forefathers. After flying to Edinburgh he rode trains for six hours, drove 20 miles and then hiked out to explore the picturesque ruins and the small lake connected to the sea by a canal which was a safe and hidden harbor for their Viking-like boats. With this presentation he will share the awesome views and the magical essence of his solo adventure walking the lands where his ancestors trod!
